Tawakoni April 3, 2003
This spring Tawakoni is the place to be for catching fish!
The Stripers, Hybrids and White Bass are all biting extremely well right now on artificial baits. The Stripers and Hybrids are concentrated along the dam. They are either directly on the rip rap and can be caught on 4 Holiday Glo Shad (sassy shad) or they are just off the rocks on top of nearby humps and can be caught bottom bouncing slabs or large Roadrunner jigs. Live bait is also accounting for good numbers of nice sized fish being caught.
The White Bass are somewhat in the same area and can be caught on the same size baits only slightly smaller. The White Bass were also schooling in front of the Dallas Water Pump Station. The fish are feeding on smaller shad and youll need to use smaller baits to catch them effectively.
The catfish are also biting well in shallow flooded grassy areas suing cut shad. The catfish are currently feeding on Carp roe as the Carp are already spawning.
The water temp is around 58 to 60 degrees and the water is fairly clear. This lake can be extremely dangerous this time of year because it is very open. Keep an eye out for spring storms and get off of the water as soon as possible if one develops. Good Luck and Good Fishing.
E-mail me if I can be of any use or help to you in anyway.
